About Tomfoolery Wines

The Tomfoolery adventure began in the sweltering heat of the 2004 harvest between best mates Ben Chipman and Toby Yap, and a tonne of old vine Shiraz. The fruit was picked with some generous assistance from friends, then destemmed and basket pressed to produce the first ‘Artful Dodger’ Shiraz. Over the following vintages the boys expanded their production to include Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Mataro, Tempranillo and Pinot Noir.

Wines From Tomfoolery:

2019 Tally-ho Sauvignon Blanc

Grapes are harvested at night to keep them cool for delivery to the winery where they are gently pressed.  After cold settling the clear juice is carefully racked to cooled fermentation tanks and inoculated with selected yeasts. Cool fermentation is followed by minimal handling, filtration prior to bottling. Generously aromatic with fresh peas and jasmine florals, and a zesty lime lift. Zippy lime and gooseberry fruit with intense minerality on a fresh, light palate, all tied together with crisp natural acidity on a clean, lingering finish.

2019 Fox Whistle Pinot Gris

rapes are harvested at night to keep them cool for delivery to the winery where they are gently pressed.  After cold settling the clear juice is carefully racked to cooled fermentation tanks and inoculated with selected yeasts. Cool fermentation is followed by minimal handling, filtration prior to bottling. Poached pears and frangipane tart with accents of citrus zest, the palate is soft and juicy, with nashi pear fruit, lime juice and blanched almonds on a textural, rounded palate balanced by refreshing acidity.

2019 Trouble and Strife Cabernet Franc Rosé

The fruit is handpicked at optimum ripeness and flavour profile ensuring overall balance before being gently destemmed to keep as many whole berries as possible and then soaked on skins for 12 to 24 hours, capturing the essence of the fruit but with fine tannins before being gently pressed and fermented. Grenadine and raspberry aromas with aromatic rosehip high notes and subtle cinnamon spice. the palate is crisp, dry and refreshing with wild strawberries, redcurrants and rose petal florals, balanced by juicy acidity and finishing with a hint of vanilla spice.
