About Coriole Wine

Coriole was started in the 1960s. It is a beautiful spot looking south towards many McLaren Vale vineyards, the old Willunga Range and the Fleurieu Bight. The estate has a lot of Shiraz vines, the oldest planted in 1919. There is also their first Sangiovese vineyard planted in 1985 as well as the first Fiano vineyard (2001), both the oldest of their kind in Australia.

Vines were first planted in the McLaren Vale region in 1838. The McLaren Vale wine companies have formed a close and supportive community that work on cooperative wine and marketing projects together to make the region what it is today.

Hugh and Molly Lloyd founded Coriole in 1969, an estate that began as 12 acres under vines with the original Shiraz vineyard planted immediately after the first world war in 1919. McLaren Vale has a long history as a wine district and vines were first planted at the Coriole site as far back as 1873. The Lloyd family continues to manage and develop the Coriole estate.

Wines Featured:

Coriole Sparta Shiraz
This is a classic McLaren Vale Shiraz. A savoury nose of burnished leather, ground anise, polished mahogany and blackberry bramble. A plush palate offering up a bounty of forest fruits and mellow oak. The Sparta is a fruit driven Shiraz made to enjoy in its youth through will cellar well. Tannins are soft and approachable with great fruit length.

Coriole Dancing Fig
The nose is deliciously aromatic with raspberry, lifted orals, white pepper and exotic spice, with a hint of strawberries and cream, toasted nuts and honey. The medium to light palate is full of plump fruit, Satsuma plum and cranberry. It has ne lingering tannins, mouth watering acidity and a wonderful, long nish. An approachable wine that you’ll struggle to put down.

Coriole Prosecco
You’re met with a burst of honeysuckle, almond blossom, star jasmine and a twist of citrus oil on the nose. The palate is bright and tangy with wonderful crisp, fresh acidity, lime, sherbet and strands of bubbles.

Coriole Chenin Blanc
The nose is lively and attractive, displaying white peach, lychee and honeydew melon. The palate offers a generous platter of tropical and citrus favours, finishing with fresh and bright acidity. A wine to enjoy now but it will also reward long term cellaring.
